Bilateral Transverse Patellar Fracture due to a Simple Fall

Abstract
Patella is the largest sesamoid bone in the body and is involved in the knee extensor mechanism. Isolated bilateral patellar fractures after trauma are very rare and often associated with systemic conditions such as osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, and kidney failure. In addition, traumas associated with patellar fracture often include high-energy mechanism such as motor-vehicle accidents. The incidence in men is almost twice that in women. We have presented a 46-year-old female patient with bilateral traumatic patellar fracture. The patient did not have any systemic disease and the mechanism of trauma was a simple fall. The patient was diagnosed in the emergency department and was hospitalized for orthopedic surgery.
